Catacombs

The catacombs are located within the city walls, near the Bear Tower. The monument is an underground church carved in living rock. At the end of the 14th and beginning of the 15th century, the powerful duke Hrvoje Vukčić Hrvatinić ordered that the Catacombs be carved as the last residence of the ducal Hrvatinić family. At the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, the entrance to the Catacombs was covered with an above-ground stone portico.
